WORKING LANDSCAPES
Goal: Maintain thriving, working landscapes and waterfronts that support the sustainable production of food and fiber for our communities.
You can help our coastal economy by supporting local farmers and fishermen and by encouraging restaurants and grocers to support these local businesses, as well.
Look for Georgia Grown products in your local grocery stores and restaurants. You can also find Georgia Grown vendors here.
RECREATION
Goal: Cultivate opportunities to enjoy and recreate around special places and historic communities along the Georgia coast.
Get outside! Coastal Water Trail programs are a great resource to help us safely experience our marshes, creeks and rivers:
- Satilla River Water Trail
- Altamaha River Partnership
- Ebenezer Creek Water Trail
- The Georgia Coast Saltwater Paddle Trail
Many resources exist to help us experience the public open spaces that showcase Georgia’s natural history and culture:
- Georgia State Parks and WMAs
- Gullah Geechee Heritage Corridor
- Coastal Georgia Historical Society
- East Coast Greenway/Coastal Georgia Greenway
- St. Simons Land Trust public access properties
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Goal: Promote economic development that respects natural environments and preserves the character of our coastal communities.
Flood Risk Reduction: Encourage that your local government take steps to lower your community’s flood risk and your flood insurance premium by improving their Community Rating System score. Give your Mayor, City Commissioner, or County Commissioner this FEMA brochure.
Pollution Permit Violations: You are the eyes and ears of the community, so if you encounter what you think may be a violation of environmental standards or permits, report it to the regulatory agency. You will not be liable or charged a fee. Click here for instructions on how to report suspicious activities, discharges, or smells.
